FormBlaster is a sort of mail merge utility for email communications. If you are familiar with doing a mail merge in a word processing program – you know that with a normal mail merge you take some sort of data source such as a spreadsheet or database and merge it with a word processing document, using fields from the data source to populate fields on the word processing document. If the data source was a spreadsheet containing a list of members of a community organization, the word processing document could be a registration form for an event or membership renewal form. The mail merge allows you to create a document you can print that contains a separate section for every member; once the document has been printed, you can then stuff each member’s section in a separate envelope and mail them off to your members.

With FormBlaster it is still a mail merge, but you will be merging to email (optionally only printing documents for users who do not have email addresses) instead. Assuming you are part of some organization and you have a spreadsheet containing contact information for everyone in your organization, you can use FormBlaster to do any of the following:
- Send a simple email message to every person listed in the spreadsheet – every user who receives the email message will see the same message.
- Send a customized email message to every person listed in the spreadsheet – the content of the email message sent to each recipient will be customized for the recipient using contact information included in the spreadsheet.
- Send a simple email message and file attachment to every person listed in the spreadsheet – every message sent will contain the same message content and attachment.
- Send a customized email message and file attachment to every person listed in the spreadsheet – the content of the email message sent to each recipient will be customized for the recipient using contact information included in the spreadsheet.
- Send a simple email message and file attachment to every person listed in the spreadsheet – every email sent will contain the same message body but the contents of the file attachment will be customized for every recipient. In this case, fields in a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF document can be populated with information from the spreadsheet before being sent to the recipient.
- Send a customized email message and file attachment to every person listed in the spreadsheet – the content of the email message and the file attachment sent to each recipient will be customized for the recipient using information included in the spreadsheet. In this case, fields in a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF document can be populated with information from the spreadsheet before being sent to the recipient.
In each of these examples that include sending a file attachment with the email message, if one of the contacts in the spreadsheet does not have an email address, you can configure FormBlaster to automatically print a copy of the attachment so you send the document to the recipient via regular (postal) mail.
FormBlaster:
- Helps you avoid the complexities of mail merges by allowing you to create and execute a FormBlaster merge with just a few mouse clicks.
- Automatically handles users who have email addresses and users that do not. There is no need to build separate processes to handle both situations.
- Allows you to avoid having your email messages blocked by spam filters or internet mail servers because you have too many recipients assigned to your outbound messages. FormBlaster sends individual messages to each recipient, so there is less chance it will be interpreted as spam.
FormBlaster is not a Spam tool. While the ability to easily distribute email communication may make it look like FormBlaster can be used to send unsolicited email, the program was designed to facilitate legitimate communications between an organization and its members.
